AXIOM

What does Axiom mean?

Sarah choose a name to embody what she strives to do, facilitate healing for clients.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"An axiom or postulate is a statement that is taken to be true, to serve as a premise or starting point for further reasoning and arguments. The word comes from the Greek axíōma (ἀξίωμα) 'that which is thought worthy or fit' or 'that which commends itself as evident.

The term has subtle differences in definition when used in the context of different fields of study. As defined in classic philosophy, an axiom is a statement that is so evident or well-established, that it is accepted without controversy or question.  As used in modern logic, an axiom is a premise or starting point for reasoning.

Etymology

The word axiom comes from the Greek word ἀξίωμα (axíōma), a verbal noun from the verb ἀξιόειν (axioein), meaning "to deem worthy", but also "to require", which in turn comes from ἄξιος (áxios), meaning "being in balance", and hence "having (the same) value (as)", "worthy", "proper". Among the ancient Greek philosophers an axiom was a claim which could be seen to be self-evidently true without any need for proof."

So a tagline was created from this definition:

"You are Worthy of Being in Balance"

Sarah Fitzgerald ~ CMT, MFRT,  Reiki Master, & Shamanic Healer

Business Owner & Bodywork Therapist

Sarah found her calling as a Bodywork Therapist while working as a PCA.  After being told that she has magic hands and that she should go to school for massage, Sarah kept seeing signs that this was her path.  “I would be folding laundry while watching tv and I kept seeing ads for a massage therapy program at a local tech college. I thought to myself that this has to be a sign.”   Sarah graduated with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Massage Therapy from High Tech Institute in May 2005.

Bodywork is Sarah’s passion and she loves to learn more about how she can help others.  She continues her education in two areas that were briefly touched on in college.

Sarah has always felt an energy while working with her clients, an energy that seems to just flow through her hands.  She became Reiki I attuned in August 2018, Reiki II attuned in February 2019 and Reiki Master attuned in March 2020.  These attunements have greatly benefited both Sarah and her clients.  She is working towards continuing her Reiki training.

Sarah has also found John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Therapy.  Due to how memories, emotions and trauma are stored in the fascial system.  She has found this therapy to be a missing link for several of her clients, including herself.  Since there is no limit to what she can learn with Myofascial Release, Sarah plans on taking all of the training seminars at least once, if not more than once.

Sarah brings all that she has learned and continues to learn to the table.  She seamlessly blends several modalities and bodywork techniques into every session.  Her pressure is gradual and evenly balanced throughout the session.  Sarah creates a calm and relaxed environment where you never feel rushed or hurried.  She takes the time to truly hear and listen to your concerns and goals for each session.  She encourages her clients to utilize the self care homework that she gives you after each session, including yoga and exercise.

Sarah enjoys gardening, being outdoors, walking, yoga and spending time with family.

JOHN F. BARNES MYOFASCIAL RELEASE

What to expect with Myofascial Release

Thank you for choosing MFR.  You will notice as you begin treatment, that MFR is quite un-like any other form of bodywork that you may have experienced.  So, with this in mind I would like to outline a few tips that will help you find success with your treatments.

Your Body Can Heal!

Our bodies have an incredible ability to heal themselves, if given the right environment.  What I can do with MFR is open up the body via the fascial system to allow this healing to begin.

Have a Goal

Have a clear and realistic goal before beginning treatment.  Being “pain free” may not be a realistic goal in all cases, but decreasing pain and gaining greater range of motion can be.  Share your goals with your therapist so that you’re both on the same page and so that your therapist is better able to help you.

During Treatment….

To start, the therapist will do a visual assessment to check the alignment of your body.  This assessment, along with your history and areas of concern will determine where we will start.

It is also recommended for the client to wear shorts and a sports bra or a 2 piece bathing suit (or something they feel comfortable in as all releases are done directly on the skin and some may involve movement).

Using the John Barnes method of Myofascial Release, gentle pressure (or traction) is applied to the restricted areas of the body.  This pressure is held for at least 5 minutes. In that time you will feel the tissues soften, as this happens more pressure and stretch will be applied.  The time factor is extremely important to fully release the deep layers of the fascial system and, in turn, allow our body to begin to heal.

Soft tissue mobilization techniques may also be used if there are a lot of superficial restrictions. This technique is mostly stripping-like strokes along the surface of the skin.

You’re Awareness

To get the full benefits of your MFR treatment, you will need to really focus on what you are feeling in your body during treatment.  You may have referral sensations in areas of your body that aren’t being worked on.  You may feel your body twitch or shake.  You may feel the need to stretch or move during a release (this is the fascial tissue unwinding).  You may even feel different emotions coming up during the session (fear, anger, sadness, joy, etc.…).  Emotions are felt and expressed with the body and experienced and labeled in the mind.

All of these feelings and sensations are valid, so don’t be too quick to dismiss anything that comes up. We may not know what they mean or where they come from, but it is important that we honor them and feel them through the course of the session.

Healing Journey

Everybody is going to respond to treatment a little differently, some of you may experience what we call a “Healing Journey”.  This can feel like mild to intense workout pain, a temporary increase in symptoms, flu-like aches/chills, or the feeling of emotional chaos. While this may be uncomfortable, it IS part of the healing process.  Your body has been holding on to a pattern of restriction for a while and when it finally gets released you may feel it in the form of a “healing journey”.  When you have been out of touch with your body due to fascial restrictions, what you experience in a healing crisis is more of a “waking up” process.  Allowing yourself to feel this is important to the process, as is being gentle with yourself.

INTEGRATED THERAPEUTIC BODYWORK

An integrated massage is any kind of therapeutic massage that integrates multiple modalities into a single session.

Integrative massage therapy is a treatment that involves the integration of therapy techniques from a number of different modalities including massage, deep tissue, trigger point, somatic therapy and bodywork techniques.

The specific combination of techniques will depend on the patient, as each session is specially designed to meet the needs of the individual.

The patient takes an active role in the therapy, working closely with the therapist. Touch plays an important role as it allows for the therapist and the client to form a strong bond and connection throughout the sessions. This is vital for the release and flow of life energies between the bodies and for the healing process to occur. When the patient is comfortable with their therapist and feels safe in the treatment environment, they are more likely to open up to the experience and encourage the best results of the treatment.

The integrative massage technique is based on the idea that not just one massage is right for every person or can solve every problem. That is why through using a variety of techniques every individual problem of the body can be targeted and addressed with its own approach, producing optimal results.

A typical integrative massage session is very open in structure. As a team, you and the therapist will meet and discuss what you are looking for and what techniques will best suit your needs. During the first session, you will also discuss the goals for the treatment and how often or how many sessions will be needed. Usually an initial number of sessions are recommended (usually between four and six) to allow the therapist to gain information about the patient and to determine the best therapeutic techniques for treatment.

Integrative massage is beneficial for anyone who wants to enjoy life to the fullest, physically, mentally and spiritually.  Integrative massage can help anyone transition towards a better life.

VITA FLEX & RAINDROP THERAPY

Vita Flex & Raindrop Therapy is one of the safest, noninvasive regimens available for spinal health. It is an invaluable method to promote healing from within using topically applied therapeutic grade essential oils. It also stimulates all the body systems on a physical and emotional level. Utilizing a rolling and/or light touch to facilitate these oils to support muscles, joints, immune system function, detoxification, emotional well being, and they support the occasional feelings of stress. The Young Living essential oils used are: Oregano, Thyme, Basil, Cypress, Wintergreen, Marjoram, Aroma Siez, Peppermint and Valor.

Your session starts with Vita Flex Technique applied to your feet with 9 oils to the reflex points that reflect your spine (about 15 minutes). Next, these same oils are applied to your back in Raindrop Technique, from your sacrum to your neck (about 20 minutes). Then, a warm compress is applied to your back for about 15 minutes, during this time the therapist may apply Swedish Massage to your legs. Finally, the therapist will remove the warm compress and ask you to turn over for an occipital pull and neck massage, about 10 minutes.

Raindrop Story

The Raindrop Technique is a unique practice based on methods that have been used for centuries to rejuvenate the body and mind.  Inspired by the Native American tradition of observing the northern lights while inhaling the affirming aroma of nearby conifer trees, the Raindrop Technique helps bring balance and harmony to the body by combining targeted massage and distinctive energy approaches.  It also includes pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils to create an atmosphere of spirituality and serenity.
